Do you ever feel like you need help making a decision? Or you are not sure what step to take next as you travel along your journey of life? Does the way ahead seem obscure or daunting and hard to begin?

I can relate to that feeling. I needed guidance recently, and found this meditation very helpful. Sitting at the Feet of Your Wise Guide was taught to me by Dr. James Gordon who is a trauma specialist. It was so helpful to me that I wanted to share it with you.

Sitting At The Feet Of Your Wise Guide

  • Sit or lie down in a comfortable position
  • Feel the ground underneath you and feel supported
  • Imagine yourself walking down a path in the country or the forest
  • Look around and notice what you see around you
    • trees, rocks, a stream
  • Imagine yourself arriving at a place that feels safe for you
    • it could be a new place, a place from your memory, or a place in real life.
  • Notice what you see around you in this safe place
  • Notice how you feel in this safe place
  • Imagine that a guide appears to you
    • It could be a real person, an animal, someone from a movie or book, or someone from your imagination
  • Ask your guide a question that is meaningful to you
  • Allow your guide to respond
  • Ask your guide to explain further or ask follow up questions
  • Allow your guide to continue responding
  • Ask your guide if there is anything else that you need to know
  • Thank your guide and say goodbye
  • Notice your safe place again
  • Bid farewell to your safe place
  • Travel down the path again, noticing what you walk by
  • Take a deep breath, and then let it out
  • As you are ready, open your eyes and return to the space you are in.

I hope this practice helps you, as it did me. How did it feel to sit at the feet of your wise guide?

May you have peace within,
Julia
